If you’re new here and like what you read, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thank you for visiting!Another year, another group of university commencement addresses fraught with liberal ideology. Maybe I’m just used to disagreeing with outspoken liberals and are thereby not as offended by a liberal’s presence as a liberal is by a [...]
The lowdown: The sequel to Transformers was filmed earlier this month at Penn, but the actual setting of the movie will be the campus of our bitter rival Princeton, where the Transformers team has also filmed. Penn students feign outrage. Not that centuries-old college rivalries matter to most media types, but someone should’ve at least sent a [...]
Says the Daily Pennsylvanian.
From the DP:
Platt, a 1979 College graduate who is known for producing the Grammy-winning musical Wicked and the Legally Blonde movies, has been selected as the alumni graduation speaker for the College of Arts and Sciences. College senior Maya Ondalikoglu will be joining him as the student graduation speaker. They will be followed on Monday [...]
Tonight at 7:00 PM, Irshad Manji will speak at Penn in Meyerson B1. Manji is a Muslim activist, journalist and filmmaker who has become a target from radical Muslims after publishing her bestseller The Trouble with Islam: A Muslim’s Call for Reform in Her Faith. The Daily Pennsylvanian interviewed Manji in a piece published yesterday [...]
Some early-afternoon alliteration in honor of my alma mater, which has just taken on an additional 80,000 megawatt hours per year for a grand total of 200,000 megawatt hours per year. Go Quakers!
From the Daily Pennsylvanian:
The University recently made a commitment to increase its expenditure on wind energy for the next two years, making it [...]
Photos from the Penn Relays are up at the Daily Pennsylvanian.
On Sunday, the Harvard Republican Club and Harvard College Democrats passed a bipartisan bill in the Undergraduate Council specifically geared towards Harvard ROTC students. This bill, entitled Supporting ROTC Students and developed according to recommendations from the Harvard ROTC Association and current ROTC cadets and midshipmen at Harvard, has three primary components:
An extra section will [...]
Yay! This was one of the most fun experiences as a student–free admission to the Penn Relays. For a weekend, our campus was packed to the gills with street vendors selling everything from rasta hats and hemp clothing to freshly-made tamales and jerk chicken. You could smell the barbecue stands from blocks away. Daily Pennsylvanian
Last night, I posted about Dartmouth’s pilot energy usage program, which depicts a residence hall’s current energy usage with an animated display of a polar bear. Green Lite Dartmouth passed out energy-efficient light bulbs and power strips at the program’s launch yesterday. Yesterday, Brown University kicked off a conference on environmental sustainability called Brown [...]
Oh, if only I were still an undergrad at Penn. I would have loved to heckle this crowd.
Wonkette’s coverage.
More from Wonkette, including a caption that made me laugh out loud [hint: it refers to a former president].
And Dueling Tampons.
Pot, meet kettle. From Sweetness & Light:
A New York-based think tank is criticizing a high school textbook as being “too conservative.” The Center for Inquiry says the book, “American Government,” contains numerous erroneous statements, including one that scientists aren’t sure global warning exists. The center issued a scathing report about the book after a [...]
This is why we can’t let liberals take our guns away. They make a great point over at Hot Air:
I don’t understand why gun rights aren’t more of a feminist issue. Well, no, that’s not true: Most self-styled feminist intellectuals come from the left, where the dogma on Violence trumps the need for self-defense from [...]
Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton’s chief campaign strategist, has resigned. This is a fairly predictable move, considering how dismally Clinton’s 2008 campaign has actually been compared to how Clinton supporters thought her campaign would go.From Hot Air:
Penn left under a cloud after the Wall Street Journal pointed out that he had represented Colombia on a free-trade treaty [...]
