Fascinating. A new website called MyGallons.com aims to hedge rising gas prices by letting consumers purchase gas in gallons on a debit card, to be redeemed whenever they like–even if it’s months later. When you load up the pre-paid card, you pay an amount based on the average gas price in your area, and the corresponding number of gallons of gas is posted to the debit card. If you redeem it later, and gas prices have risen, you stand to save some money. If gas prices drop, however, you’re SOL.
