Australian Hog-Tying Mother is Pregnant Again

In 2003, Rebecca Mae Haliday was imprisoned after being convicted of the manslaughter of her 18-month old daughter. To teach her toddler that “bedtime meant bedtime,” Haliday and her then-boyfriend hog-tied the child with bedsheets for weeks until, one evening, the child died of asphyxiation and pneumonia in the couple’s caravan home.

Now a free woman, Haliday is expecting again. She sees this pregnancy as a fresh shot at motherhood and offers to abide by any conditions government authorities might impose upon her so that she can keep the baby.

I don’t think someone convicted of killing their own child should have the opportunity to have another one. Period. Murderers can never truly forget their crimes, and murderers who commit infanticide can’t possibly have another child and raise it without thinking of their past. Haliday should have been sterilized.
