Joy Behar: Only White People Can Be Racist

In yet another train wreck episode of The View, Joy Behar essentially says that only white people, and not ‘oppressed minorities,’ can be racist. From NewsBusters:

Behar then essentially stated it is impossible for those in the “oppressed minority” (African Americans) to be racist. This is according to her college sociology professor.
“I have another point though. Because when I was in college, I studied sociology. And what we learned is that racism is an institutional thing. It’s not like, it’s something that goes from the top down. In other words it’s not something- if somebody is- you can’t be racist if you’re in the oppressed minority. It goes the other direction. The majority is racist to the oppressed minority.”

Behar also added because of African Americans’ long history of slavery and segregation, it is “scientifically incorrect” to label a black man racist for uttering some anti-white comments.

This is exactly the asinine ideology that gets both whites and non-whites in trouble. Under Behar’s logic, the term ‘hate crime’ is a one-way street, such that only crimes whites commit to an ‘oppressed minority’ count as hate crimes. Racism is a belief, not a science. It is a learned behavior, through which a sociology professor may consider racism a social science, but it is nevertheless not a concept solely for whites. Does a racist act between two minorities not count as racism?I guess Behar would chalk this 1990 Inglewood fight between black and Hispanic high school students to teen angst.

  1. [...] Leave it to the New Black Panther Party to perpetuate racism between minorities. Are you listening, Joy Behar?  [...]
